Market Overview & Analytics

Getting started

This section is dedicated to the Market section - Overview and Analytics tools of the Sumex platform to help understand what instruments are available and how to apply them in your decision making process. The information and tools provided in this section are intended primarily for educational and orientation purposes. They are not presented as the only or definitive way to analyze the market, nor should they be taken as financial advice or endorsements of specific strategies.

This section is especially useful for newcomers looking to familiarize themselves with core market indicators and get comfortable using the analytics and data tools available on Sumex. As your experience grows, you can incorporate these insights into your own preferred research methods or expand into more advanced features offered on the platform.

N.B. Ongoing updates

This section will be regularly updated as new analytics tools, indicators and integrations become available.

Top Gainers

The Top Gainers table highlights the best-performing assets over a selected time frame — based on price increase percentage. It shows Token name and symbol, Current price and % price change over the chosen period (e.g. 1H, 24H, 7D).

This table helps you:

  • Spot emerging trends or momentum tokens
  • Discover assets gaining traction across the market
  • Identify potential short-term trading opportunities
  • Track activity across chains and ecosystems

By analyzing the price action and volume behavior of top gainers, users can make better-informed decisions — whether you're looking to ride the wave or stay cautious of overheated assets.

IO Change (%)

The Open Interest (OI) table shows the total value of active derivative contracts (typically futures) that haven't been closed or settled yet — across supported CEXes. It includes Token name and symbol, Current open interest value (in USD) and % change in OI over the selected time frame.

You can use the OI table to:

  • Gauge market sentiment — increasing OI with rising prices often signals bullish conviction; rising OI with falling prices can suggest aggressive shorting
  • Spot volatility buildup — large spikes in OI may precede big moves or liquidations
  • Track speculative activity across key assets and sectors
  • Cross-reference with funding rates to assess trader positioning

For active and futures traders, the OI table offers a key edge — helping you read what’s happening beneath the surface of the price chart.

Fear and Greed Index

The Fear and Greed Index is a sentiment indicator that reflects the overall emotional state of the crypto market — based on factors like volatility, volume, social sentiment, and market momentum.

It ranges from 0 to 100, with higher numbers indicating greed (bullish sentiment) and lower numbers indicating fear (bearish sentiment).

You can use the Fear and Greed Index to:

  • Gauge market mood at a glance
  • Time entries or exits based on sentiment extremes
  • Avoid emotionally-driven decisions by counterbalancing with objective data
  • Spot potential trend reversals during emotional peaks

While it shouldn’t be used in isolation, it’s a valuable tool for sentiment-aware strategy and risk management.

TIP

Rule of thumb thresholds:

  • 0–24 → Extreme Fear — potential buying opportunities; market is overly pessimistic
  • 25–49 → Fear — uncertainty or bearish bias
  • 50 → Neutral — balanced sentiment
  • 51–74 → Greed — growing optimism and bullish sentiment
  • 75–100 → Extreme Greed — possible overheated market; caution advised

Community Sentiment

Community Sentiment reflects how users on Sumex — along with broader social and market data — feel about a specific asset or the overall market at a given time. It includes aggregated data from social platforms, trading activity, and market trends to visually represent whether the sentiment leans bullish/bearigh/neutral. Please note, that logged-in users can also part take in voting and showing their sentiment.

How it helps:

  • Spot market bias based on crowd psychology
  • Compare retail vs. market sentiment in real time
  • Contribute your vote to influence live sentiment stats
  • Use as a soft signal to complement your strategy

While not a trading signal on its own, Community Sentiment adds a valuable social layer to your decision-making — helping you stay ahead of shifting narratives and mood swings in the market.

Altcoin Season Index

The Altcoin Season Index is a metric that tracks whether the crypto market is currently favoring altcoins over Bitcoin.

It analyzes the performance of the top 50 altcoins compared to Bitcoin over a defined period (typically 90 days), and returns a value between 0 and 100.

You can use this index to:

  • Adjust your portfolio exposure between BTC and altcoins
  • Spot market rotation trends early
  • Time potential entries for high-performing sectors (e.g., L2s, DeFi, meme coins)
  • Manage risk during overheated altcoin phases

While not predictive on its own, the Altcoin Season Index is a helpful macro sentiment tool to guide positioning across market cycles.

TIP

Rough interpretation:

  • 0–24 → Bitcoin Season – BTC is outperforming most altcoins
  • 25–49 → BTC-dominant phase, but altcoins are starting to gain traction
  • 50 → Neutral zone – no clear dominance
  • 51–75 → Altcoin Momentum – altcoins are increasingly outperforming
  • 76–100 → Altcoin Season – most altcoins are significantly outperforming BTC

Heatmap

The Heatmap provides a visual overview of key market activity using a rectangular tile layout, where each asset is represented by a colored block. It's designed to help you quickly identify where the action is happening — based on either Volume or Liquidations. The larger the block size the larger the relative market share of Volume (traded) /Liquidations in the past 24 hours.

Two tabs available:

  • Volume View Shows which assets are seeing the highest trading volume over a selected timeframe. Larger and brighter tiles represent assets with more volume, helping you spot trader focus and market momentum.
  • Liquidations View Displays assets with the highest number or value of liquidations (longs or shorts being forcefully closed). Use this view to identify highly volatile markets and possible reversal zones or panic-driven price action.

How to use it:

  • Detect high-activity sectors or tokens at a glance
  • Anticipate potential breakouts, trend shifts, or liquidation cascades
  • Quickly navigate to specific assets that stand out
  • Use alongside other metrics like OI, sentiment, or funding rates for deeper context

Whether you're a scalper, swing trader, or just scanning for signals — the Heatmap offers a fast, intuitive way to read market pressure in real time.

Gainers and Losers

The Gainers and Losers section highlights the top-performing and worst-performing assets — but with a Sumex twist.

Instead of sorting purely by global market cap, Sumex curates tokens across hand-picked ecosystems and high-activity sectors. This means you’re not just seeing the usual suspects — you're also getting visibility into emerging chains, rising protocols, and trending narratives.

How to use it:

  • Spot momentum plays or oversold assets
  • Track sector rotations and ecosystem-specific movements
  • Discover trading opportunities beyond the top 10 market cap coins
  • Validate trends by comparing gainers/losers with volume, sentiment, or news flow

Whether you're a trader scanning for setups or a researcher tracking market shifts, Sumex's Gainers and Losers view gives you context-aware insights, not just raw data. Please note that while these ecosystems were selected as some of the most prominent and influential blockchains, this should not be interpreted as an endorsement or recommendation by the Sumex team.
